My starting position in any gun debate now is "ban them all". I can compromise on that, but not much.

At a minimum, all owners must be insured. All owners must keep guns locked up and disassembled, in a locked case, when not in use at a federally licensed range. No open or concealed carry. Strict limit on the number of firearms permitted per household. A strict limit on the type of ammo allowed, the quantity of ammo allowed, the size of magazines, the types of permitted accessories/modifications.
To facilitate hunting, a hunting license will include a permit for a specific weapon, allowing only that weapon to be used while hunting. When not in use, all other storage and transportation rules apply.
ANY deviation is a felony that, at minimum, strips a person of the right to own any firearm, period. Mandatory prison for unsafe handling/storage/transportation.
And that's just getting me started.
