Xmas in san fran started day after turkey day (and people complained about the early push) Walmart is responsible for black friday

a study of ads in san fran showed that xmas wasn't mentioned until two weeks before xmas in Broadway, Macy's and other department stores.
walmart started BF with deep discounts on tvs and stereos and were the first to use the term.
yes they had big sales on the day after but there weren't much different from other sales for any other holiday they normally had sales for. Macy's had monthly 'white flower' day which we always called White Power day.
