It’s matters to him, but not in the way it would matter to you or me. It’s all a vehicle for his campaign, and once’s he reelected he can make it all go away. -- (edited)

Plus it helps him on appeal the more he enrages the judge and can cast him as being unfair, so it’s tactical as well as strategic.
