From what I saw they do a pre-9/11 US security of baggage screening and metal detectors and maybe some of the Israeli method...

that being having multiple layers of official people checking you and your paperwork. It's usually friendly but also inquisitive. One guy came up to me after we had settled in at the gate.
The Israelis do this and I saw it in France. The thought being that the more you interact with someone the more nervous you might be and then slip up.
Meanwhile the US wants internal scans of orifices. We're savages.
