My $.02. They lost the "average" movie goer/fan. I used to see all the movies, but don't care because I have no interest in the TV shows.

They interconnected it too much. The average fan doesn't have time for that, or want it. You'll still have legions of Marvel fans that will see anything. But to be massive you need general moviegoing audiences. They lost that.

and more to the point, even Marvel fans eventually figured out none of the interconnections even matter at the end of the day.
