I'm just surprised ULA can't or won't develop its own engines. They're relying on Russian engines, Blue Origin, and surplus shuttle boosters.

That doesn't really seem like a winning business plan. It's not allowing for much of a launch cadence. And relying on a competitor for your most expensive component seems ungood.

It might come from the plane based origins of the two partners that make up ULA. Neither Lockheed nor Boeing have made aircraft engines for -- (edited) - JD Nov 14, 16:29 1
