tiktok’s algorithm and users copying others a whole lot along with it encourages virality.

I’ve long said that it’s algorithm is the best at giving what a user wants, great when it’s hobbies or the like but not so great when it’s helped create binary echo chambers about non-binary topics. add in too many people who’re low on critical thinking skills and who have mistaken people who speak authoritatively as actual authorities, plus skillful use of encouraging tribalism, and it’s been a mess.
(I think I’ve posted here before about younger folks being second only to oldsters when it comes to falling for online scams. freaking scarier when applied to things that can cause actual hurt or worse for people.)
