I was aware of the BBC's Planet Earth series (the original one) though never watched it.

My plan to Florida had DirectTV, which I wasn't really interested in watching (wanted to nap). However, the default channel was playing some vacuum infomercial and I got tired of glancing over and seeing images of hair stuck in vacuums, so I changed the channel to BBC America where Planet Earth was playing just to have different visuals.

It was focused on Africa/savannah. It was all very pretty and I get why it was so well regarded.
