I get the logic of leaving him, but not why you'd bring in Ubaldo.

If Britton gets the outs, you're still not winning the game and you just wasted 1 of the at most 2 innings you'd get from him.
But to bring in the batting practice in highly paid form of Ubaldo? ... yeha, that's the killer.
