nothing you’ve said *has* to be the narrative. it’s up to parents to decide what they want to do, a la santa.

they don’t have to lie, it doesn’t have to be creepy or be a behavior-modifier or other negatives. it can just be a fun, creative thing; and/or parents can add things like charitable giving or volunteering on some days.
I follow some parents who have done it every year, and it varies a lot. I’m not sure why you think there’s only one way.
