Apparently I'm a greedy, greedy, consumer looking to have it all at the expense of the artists but I use it as it is a fantastic music discovery tool

for me.
That band that I've never heard of playing at The Glass House or The Troubadour, the ones that I've sort of heard of playing at The Bellwether or Fonda, I can all but instantly listen to as many or as few songs I want to. I guess as sign that I'm not completely about me and none for the artists, this process tends to end up in a ticket purchase in the 1/3 to 50% range which leads to me purchasing a shirt at the show.
Since my account is all but exclusively mine, things like the Discover Weekly auto-generated playlist actual reflect what I listen to and while there's some danger of creating my own little sound bubble, it relatively reliably leads me to new acts that I actually like.
When the Coachella poster goes up, Step 1 Find an article with a quick run down of acts, especially the small font acts that will open each day. Step 2 Starting listening to music on Spotify from the women artists or acts that have a female lead
While I loved Tower Records, I wouldn't be able to financially afford the whole discovery process in the era of only physical media.
and I guess it's kind of my choice of evils. I prefer Spotify over YouTube and I guess I need some degree of handholding that Spotify provides over a more direct resource such as SoundCloud or Bandcamp.
