Alaska Air ALK 5.08%increase; green up pointing triangle reached a roughly $1 billion deal to buy Hawaiian Airlines HA 8.24%increase; green up pointing triangle, a combination of rivals that largely serve destinations in the Pacific region that are reliant on air travel.
Alaska Air will pay $18 a share in cash under a deal the two companies unveiled Sunday.
Hawaiian Holdings, the parent of the airline, closed Friday under $5 a share, giving it a market value of about $250 million. Alaska Air has a market value of around $5 billion.
The Wall Street Journal earlier reported the two sides were near a deal.
