So, we passed a law increasing the minimum wage of delivery workers. The apps can either pay them $18hr, even when they're not delivering food or -- (edited)

pay them $33 an hour but only when they're picking up and dropping off food.
I'm fine with that and the apps said they're going to raise the rates to cover the added costs which is also fine as that's what I want restaurants to do so we can end tipping and people can get a consistent and fair wage.
With all that said, that brings me to my question: Do I still have to tip the delivery worker if they're now getting a fair wage for the work they're doing?
I'm having a hard time coming to terms with the fact that I might not have to tip someone working a service job, especially dealing with food.

I've only ordered GrubHub maybe three times. Even with free delivery everything costs more. I can save $5+ depending on the order by picking it up

I ordered delivery *once.* The driver couldn't find my unit and didn't speak or understand English when he called for directions.

Presumably this makes the app rates so untenable that people stop using them and the companies collapse.

if it's a living wage, tipping shouldn't be required. -- nm

I did that for about 6 months 2019-2020. This is great for the delivery people. I did grocery and probably 30% didn't tip.

higher wages are good but really should be cracking down on the usurious fees that apps extort restaurants into paying to play or die -- (link*)

No tip. Tipping was intended to make up for the lower wage. That it's mutated beyond that is a bane. -- nm

Pretty sure that at least for restaurant workers tipping is still going to be a thing since particularly at higher end restaurants minimum wage isn't
