I think you could scrub mention of Christmas from Die Hard without changing it. Like most heists, it could have just taken place at the start of a weekend when few would be around. The office party could have been celebrating a business moment; Holly could have been considering a permanent move to Japan, triggering John to visit feeling the opportunity was on a deadline. I don't think there's anything more than that line of dialogue in John's head about reconciling *because* it's Christmas, and Hans is also just using it as an opportunity.
