Unpopular opinion: Zach Wilson is just saving himself so he can take over from Sam Darnold. It's not like he's going to somehow turn into a starting

QB by getting a few more starts.
Especially behind what the Jets call an offensive line and then on top of that, he'd be playing home games on turf and what some consider the worst playing surface.
What does he have to gain? He'll throw for like 100-150 yards, the Jets lose and he gets blamed for it.
His employers moved like the entire team structure to get Rodgers and then were like oh, shit, uh, forget about the 50 year old wack job that we hired to take over your job, we kind of need you to save our season.
Then he get demoted again, actually, gets demoted two steps in one org change and now his employers are like well, hell, that guy actually wasn't as bad as two guys that we tried to have take over his job.
I mean think about it, if that happens to you at work (regardless of pay scale, or actually, keep pay in mind), wouldn't you give at least a fleeting thought that you might hold the cards at that point. Oh, wait. Me? You want me to take a position where I could suffer injuries that would affect me for the rest of my life (ok, that part doesn't apply to most of us). You just got done telling me that I was barely worth keeping on the payroll. Maybe you've talent evaluation issues (ok, the Jets kind of do have that issue at times).
So why not make your employer sweat a bit?
