"I’m curious - do you consider Lethal Weapon 1 a Christmas movie? Die Hard? If you split, why?"

Die Hard doesn't happen if it isn't Christmas.

The bad guys use that time frame because people are away or staying at home for the holidays. Probably less police as well, and the ones that couldn't get time off are probably worse than those who could.
But mostly, their plans are foiled by a cop who used his vacation time to go there to try and save his marriage. If not for Christmas he would have been in NY and it is a heist movie instead. (Heist movies follow the thieves as the protagonists, so Die Hard isn't a heist movie.)
Been too long since I watched LW, but Christmas seems to be more background. Happe s during Christmas, not because of it.
