We're planning to go to a few museums and to just walk around and look at the buildings and city. -- nm

Well shoot me an email if you’d like! Personally I’d go with the Westin. There’s some Fairfield and other Marriott properties all close and pretty low -- nm

Both are good, and in good locations. Washington Plaza is at the same circle as Westin. -- nm

Westin Thomas Circle is usually cheap. It’s a great hotel. Moxy downtown is very small but a great price on weekends ($90 tonight) -- nm

do you want to stay in the city proper or just have access to Metro (10 min ride downtown from hotels in the suburbs) -- nm

(I generally stay at the Twinbrook Hilton in Rockville, which has the red line Metro stop behind it. usually much cheaper than a downtown room) -- (link)

My friend is staying downtown tonight for under $100/night. If you want to see DC don’t stay in Rockville. -- nm

I mean you can… but why stay there if you can walk everywhere by staying in the city for similar prices? -- nm

A 10m subway ride is no biggie. We're going to see the usual tourist stuff. -- nm

there’s no reason to pay $200+ for a room downtown if you’re just sightseeing when all the sights are near a metro stop -- nm

As I said, hotel rooms are not $200. There are 12 Marriott branded hotels near me under $200 for tomorrow night. -- nm
