do not know what causes either. Even the amyloid plaques that have for years believed is the cause of alzheimer's, they are now not clear if that is the cause or a by-product of the cause (which remains unknown). I think once they determined that MS is actually caused by a virus, they have begun to investigate whether viruses are the cause of these other diseases, but it's still very much in the early stages of any research.
