What I can't understand is: How did the finest liberal and progressive political minds fail to stop these people?
|
I was talking to Proud Boys, Three Percenters, and Oath Keepers on a regular basis starting almost fifteen years ago. All these groups emerged during the Tea Party rise.
I had conversations with any number of people who were arguing for the State of Jefferson or Greater Idaho movements, or who supported the Malheur Wildlife Station takeover.
At the Senator's town halls, I'd end up having conversations with "perfectly normal" people who openly called for book bans in public libraries, who said that being a devout Christian should be a requirement for public office, or who said "the queers" should be restricted to living in Portland, Seattle, or San Francisco -- if not outright jailed.
Up until a couple years ago, I always believed groups like the DNC, DCCC, DSCC, the Center for American Progress, or Human Rights Watch knew what "those people" were doing and were working to contain them. Like "those people" have been working openly, aggressively, and purposefully for decades -- since the late 1980s at least.
But now, I simply don't know.
