I have many questions (and no answers) -- (edited)

Usually a parent would be at the gate with them in Philly until they walk down the jetbridge, wouldn't they? Did the parent not notice the child was getting on the wrong plane? Or did they just not wait with the child?

How was a passenger (6 or otherwise) boarded to the wrong flight? Wouldn't the passenger count be wrong?

And don't the Flight Attendants normally double check the paperwork when the UM is boarded?

I'm thoroughly confused by how this happened.
