My daughter really shouldn’t have a car.

Took the Volkswagen Tiguan (my car, really… it’s my retirement nestegg… my future depends on a 2019 mid-size SUV) today so I could get new tires installed at Costco and to see if I could get an oil change. As I was driving her to school, she remarked that the car also needed washer fluid, so then I pulled the lever and fluid shot out and she said “Oh.” Then she said that one of the vents didn’t work, so I ramped up the fan and put her hand on the vent. Now she’s just angry with me.

Did manage to get an oil change, but the litany of maintenance on the horizon (which they kindly told me about, but didn’t do the hard sell) has me concerned about my retirement.

Ultimately I’m concerned about all the things that are wrong with the car (or she THINKS are wrong with the car), and she doesn’t tell me about. I picture her driving with no windshield and I have to ask her at dinner, “Hun, are you doing something different with your hair?”
