Checking the flight details. One is a "Boeing 737-9 MAX (ETOPS)"; return flight is a "Boeing 737-900 (Winglets)". -- nm

The 737-9 MAX is basically the newer generation of the 737-900.

sounds like the hatch patch has some serious structure flaws being found on other max 900s -- nm

I'll wait to see what the NTSB/FAA have to say. Will be interesting to see if this is just the Max 9 or also extends to the prior gen 737-900s -- nm
