Which I initially thought that was kind of an upset as I'm kind of meh about the original. Granted, I've only ever seen it once and well, Heathers.

However in retrospect, it probably should have been a toss up going in as I love musicals.

It's definitely a musical and I thought it was really well done. I was pretty much on board from the opening. I liked the songs and while there's definitely choreography that I can envision being adapted from the stage, there's also stuff that movie-izes (in a good way) and does stuff that couldn't be done on stage.

So having only seen the original once, I can't be sure, but I think that the musical is actually meaner as well as incorporating current social media (well, from the prospective of a fifty something) compared to the original. I liked both of those changes.
