And a thought that occured to me this weekend about (500) Days of Summer (spoilers)

It's actually a standard romantic comedy told from the point of view of the "other guy" that the woman is dating when she meets her true soul mate.

Usually you see it the other way - you concentrate on the guy trying to get the girl and the other guy is just the complication. Some times in romantic comedies the other guy is a jerk, but a lot of times he's a perfectly nice guy who just isn't "the one." In this case the soul mate relationship takes place completely off screen and we get to see the relationship through the character that James Marsden seems to play a lot these days.
