If it's not something you do commonly, it shouldn't be an issue as things do happen sometimes. However

A) you're not going to get a refund for that second half since it's non-refundable (most likely)
B) you may not be able to re-use that second half for anything other than flying that same route in the future
C) even if you can use the credit for anything you want (which often is not possible for a partially used ticket), the value could definitely be less than 50% of the overall ticket
