If it was a critic or a commentator saying it, I'd agree with you. But this is someone who collaborated on a project with Gerwig and Robbie for a year

(and who also will be roundly criticised if he doesn't say anything), so I can easily give him some grace and not care that he's made a statement saying they should have been nominated.

While the Oscars (and other movie awards) are supposed to be about the best, we all know that other factors like box office success and whether voters agree with the message of the movie (or not) are important factors, and this is part of it.
