Here if you're employed under contract it's generally thought of as a drawback as that contract will have length of employment built into it. Whereas

if you're just employed without a contract (90% of the workforce are like this), you are immediately conferred all the rights a worker is entitled to under law. Contracts here, when agreed to by both parties, can sign away (as it were) those rights enjoyed by those employed without contract.
