Suburbs don't want you walking and most of NJ is suburbs. I'm sure it's the same around many stadiums in the country. They expect you to drive because -- (edited)

they built them nowhere near where people actually live and don't offer enough quality public transit.
There are good public transit option to MetLife but apparently walking isn't an option. They might want to look into a fix if so many people are interested in walking.
