I've interviewed two people who were just as arrogant and who said equally stupid things in an interview.

"I don't have any weaknesses. I got rid of weakness in boot camp." That was one candidate for a job as a Veterans Liaison.
And when I asked, "What did you learn from that situation on The Hill?," a different candidate for a different job replied, "I should've been in charge -- and that was the Congressman's fault."
But then again, those were for jobs as a Congressional staffer, so the prevalence of "extraordinary arrogance" in the candidate pool was orders of magnitude higher than real life.
