Netflix announced Thursday morning that its superhero television series “The Umbrella Academy” has set Aug. 8, 2024 as the release date for its fourth and final season. All six episodes will debut simultaneously on the streamer.
During Netflix’s Geek Week event last fall, the “Umbrella Academy” cast teased that the final season would be a “sexy, wacky” farewell to the characters. Though all three previous seasons of the series composed of 10 episodes, this final installment truncates things a bit with six.
Series newcomers for the Season 4 cast include Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally and David Cross. Offerman and Mullally, who are married in real life, are playing doctors Gene and Jean Thibedeau, two community college professors who suffer from extreme deja vu. Cross is playing a meek but moral business owner and family man, Sy Grossman. Returning cast members include Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min, Ritu Arya and Colm Feore.
“The Umbrella Academy” last released episodes when Season 3 hit Netflix in June 2022. The show debuted in 2019, with a second season shortly following in 2020. The series is an adaptation of the graphic novels of the same name written by Gerard Way and illustrated by Gabriel Bá. Steve Blackman developed the series and serves as executive producer and showrunner. Jesse McKeown, Mike Richardson, Keith Goldberg, Scott Stuber, and Beau Bauman also executive produce. Way and Bá serve as co-executive producers. The series is produced for Netflix by UCP.
