Goddammit. It's not like you system was just gifted to you. At some point, somebody reasonably figured that a case couldn't / hadn't been looked at cause of backlog / lack of people to look at the case. Then there was somebody tasked with looking into open cases and assigning an update and they reasonably use the appropriate code that “We didn’t even know there was such a code,”
I'm positive that the 'fix' is going to be remove the code as option for updating a case.
