B2 - another factor in why Canada can't make discount airlines work compared to Europe, is that Europe has destinations that offer something different

There are some pretty great places within 3 hours flying time of Toronto - NY, Boston, Chicago, DC - and some others that would be good to explore (Nashville, Minneapolis, Kansas City) but none of them offer a fundamentally different experience to Toronto.
While 2 1/2 hrs flying from London, you can choose between Copenhagen, Prague, Milan, Ibiza, etc.
Canadians would rather spend their tourism $$ getting to somewhere really different - Mexico, the Caribbean, Europe, Florida - which are 4-8 hrs flying time away and more difficult for airlines to operate on a discount.
