Chicago has tried private security. It's costly. I'm sure politically connected firms (nothing changed with the new mayor as far as that's concerned)

I ride the trains a lot in the summer and saw them occasionally. More times I saw people laying across seats sleeping or folks drinking and smoking. I've been lucky that I've never had a major issue on the CTA or felt in real danger.
My biggest issue is the poor service and condition of the trains. They can't come close to a schedule and breakdowns are common. The leadership is terrible but the mayor refuses to confront it.
New boss same as the old boss.
