In response to "Looks like he couldn't remember the year, but knew the day and month. -- (edited)" by Inigo

I would agree if I could add a bit of detail to your statement. And I think Hur was committing the sin of stating a partial truth only.

Biden couldn't recall the year that Beau died -- for a moment. He could remember the month and date, he initially mis-stated the year, realized his mistake as he was uttering it, and immediately corrected himself.

You know how often I do the same thing? Daily.

When people are stressed out and in a heightened state of emotion, we forget little details. Emotions shut down the parts of our brains related to reasoning, memory recall, and other higher cognitive functions.

Such as in a deposition. Especially when grilled by some idiot about your son's death for no good reason. And particularly during hour 3 or 4 of a 5-hour deposition that anyone would find numbing and exhausting.

Which itself is a deposition tactic that lawyers commonly use: Ask an annoying question to throw the deponent off guard, hoping they say something they later contradict, then make a big deal about it.

Saying that Pres. Biden "did no remember when he was Vice President" is just as truthful and accurate as stating that "Julian Edelman failed to make the catch before Robert Alford batted the ball" during Super Bowl LI.

Hur's statement was recklessly lazy at best, but probably intentionally disingenuous. He certainly engaged in a conventional Beltway style of political communications.
