Today is Darwin's last day.

I took him in this morning for the oral surgery to remove his abscessed teeth I posted about a few days ago, and as part of that to get a better look into the growth on his nose and make a determination on whether the dental surgery made sense or would help.

Turns out it's a tumor that's basically eating away at the bone and causing the teeth to fall out in the quadrant. Also caused some necrotic flesh in his gums which is why they keep bleeding and he's been coughing up blood.

Chances are he's in significant pain, though hiding it like all dogs do. I'll head up to say my goodbyes and sit with him while it happens.

My first inclination was to bring him home and give him a few good days or couple good weeks, but as far progressed as it is and as much pain as he's probably in, I don't think that's best for him. Maybe for me, but not for him.
