He’s not delusional. He knew what he was doing and was couching it in tenuous excuses.

Macron was firm, even aggressive. Putin was obviously indifferent. The advisors told Macron not to enter into a debate on the details (there’s no point… the Minsk agreements never mattered to Putin) yet that’s what Macron did, so credit to him for giving it the old college try, but he was debating with a brick wall.
What surprises me isn’t that these advisors were back-room sending messages to Macron. I always wondered how that worked. What does surprise me is that they were using their phones.
And then at the end… That’s Putin speaking in French.
