When I worked for a mining giant they went through a phase of naming prospects in local languages. Asked a local First Nations guy what a good name

for one was. He gave them a name that nominally meant smouldering flowers, but there’s no real agreed upon English spelling, so with a slight shift in pronunciation it also meant the dog’s testicles. Turns out he thought the geophysical anomaly looked like dog balls, so that’s the name he actually picked. They spent years and tens of millions on it, had the name all over annual reports before someone told them the alternative pronunciation. After that every prospect was straight alphanumeric for about 10 years.
