The percentage has always been negotiable, but generally the 6% or 5% is shared between buyer and seller agents. Often to get a deal done a broker

Will reduce the commission. This just throws everything into a series of brand new negotiations and I fear that like most things it will result in something that is somehow more costly and worse for everyone (as most of these kinds of changes tend to result in).
