There’s no real argument that having a foreign adversary control a major media platform (i.e.TikTok) in your country is a good thing.

And like it or not TikTok is a major media platform, which I think they showed pretty clearly when they asked all their users to write their representatives and protest the bill. Directly using the platform to influence legislation may have been a mistake.
One of the things I learned at my old software company when we were thinking of expanding into China is you have to give the government access to *everything*. They might not use it, but they certainly have it. They could dictate content if they chose to. Tweak the algorithm to amplify certain voices. And sure Twitter could too, but there’s a difference between Musk doing it and the CCO doing it that’s fairly profound.
Anyway, they should probably be regulated like any other media platform.
