I am of the opposite mind. Those 16 seeds earned their bids. Put them in the round of 64 and make the at-larges duke it out.

These borderline bids are mostly mediocre teams from major conferences. Not all, but most. They've had abundant opportunities to show they deserve entry and failed to convince the committee. They're being gifted with a second chance to show they belong. Go out and earn it.

Let the little conference tourney champs who only have one way into the field enjoy their fleeting moment of glory.

Agreed. If the field dropped to 64 it’s the last four at large bids that would be dropped, not the last four automatic bids. -- nm - Dano Mar 17, 09:46
