She was mad because their entire group of friends was dying in horrible ways.
The way that the man she liked dealt with the problem was by having countless one-night stands and getting stoned all the time.
I knew from pretty much the opening conversation where I thought they were going with him, as he was the person the traitor's daughter seemed to respect and the one with whom she trusted her final conversation about divinity. But the getting there required us to overlook what a total man-child he is. Then again, that may be the point. I don't know, as I haven't read the books.
