There has to be a better way to rid ourselves of the rats besides all the poison. I'm hopeful the sanitation changes will make a difference -- (edited)

but we have so many that we still need to lower the population.

I read about using Co2 in rat holes to kill them but that's not going to make much of a dent in a citywide issue.

The poison is a major problem with the birds of prey eating the poisoned rats as this article mentions but the city just doesn't care. They tell businesses and people they can't use it during breeding season but no one listens and breeding season varies from bird to bird. Bald eagles, which we have, start in January while other birds start much later and go all summer. The poison traps are out all year long and I don't think there's a single bit of oversight.
