Protects Israel. Now you and I can say that Israel has to accept some risk to protect innocent people and there are wide protests in Israel saying the same thing, but I have empathy for traumatized people who just want safety and security. And too often these positions are stated with flip remarks that place blame on one side. Let’s not forget that Hamas built this situaution purposely. They attacked first and built an infrastructure that purposely puts innocent people in harm’s way. The inability to recognize and appreciate these facts is why so many of these arguments feel antisemitic. It’s totally fair to criticize decisions, but it needs context and empathy and not just finger pointing at one side. Maybe I’m oversensitive, but the number of comments that are one sided, consider hamas freedom fighters and excuse the rape and murder of women and children because they are oppressed people without recognizing the trauma on the other side (historical and current) gets tiresome and insensitive in ways that would never be tolerated by those same people for any other marginalized group.
