For Montreal style food, here are some suggestions

For smoked meat - Schwarz's is the classic, but there are always long queues, crowds in the restaurant, etc. If you want a more laid-back experience, I'd suggest the Snowdon Deli (which is one metro stop from where you are staying)

For poutine - La Banquise on Rachel, and Ma Poulet Mouillee across the road (which is a Portuguese chicken place) also does a good one with chorizo and chicken mixed in. The other poutines I'd recommend - Chez Claudette and Chez Toussignant - are easy to get to, but a little out of the way. (The Orange Julep is also an iconic place for poutine but I don;t recommend it personally)

For Montreal bagels, St Viateur and Fairmont are the two classics. Of the two I'd suggest St Viateur as they have several locations with a sit down experience, brunch, etc.

For patisserie - Kouign Amann on Mont-Royal sells kouign amman, a buttery layered pastry. My favourite patisseries closed down during covid, so I don't have a lot of suggestions but I see Zebulon and Rhubarbe, both on the Plateau, are talked about a lot

Steamed hot dogs at the Montreal Pool Room.

I'd also suggest (though I have not tried) La Binerie for home-style Quebec foods like tourtiere and pudding chomeur.

Those cover Montreal food - for other things, I like L'Express for French bistro, Milos Estatorio for fish, Arthur's Nosh Bar for brunch.
