Smashing Pumpkins strikes me as "very much of the era" and a band that hasn't stood the test of time.

...save for a couple of songs.
Broody stuff rarely holds up once people reach quarter-life.

Siamese Dream is still 90% great. Mellon Collie was always a great album that was unfortunately made a double album.
