Steve Vai met Robert Fripp

Here with Father Robert Fripp at McCabe's Guitar Shop 3.3.24 where he gave an enlightening talk with David Singleton to a packed house of enthusiastic ears, mine being a pair of them. I was fortunate he was in town and accepted to meet with me. I respect and admire this man tremendously. Since 1969, his brilliant musical mind reinvented a music genre twice. His fiercely disciplined and unique guitar technique is untouchable to all but him and he is a marvel.
We had a lovely chat about BEAT and I was relieved and thrilled to know he gave it his blessing, and even suggested the name. When I asked him what he had thought when he heard I was in the band, he replied “you are the only one that can play my guitar parts." I found myself in a rare state of gob-smacked speechlessness because I know that nobody can play Robert's guitar parts like him.
