I don't think he cares about abortion one way or the other. He is simply trying to get elected.

He won't lose any MAGA votes over this. But maybe he can hold onto some votes that would have gone away if he took a hard-line approach.
If he is elected, I don't think he'll do a damned thing about abortion. If the GOP control Congress and pass a bill, he'll sign it. But he won't push for it at all.
