Even with him playing the troll perfectly, they made the logic fit over 6 months.

That’s shit Vince never got - nuance and logic.
He’s a face, everyone should love him! Even the guys he fucked over!
HHH: okay, Jey Uso screwed some of you…Drew isn’t going to be happy and will wonder why the hell Sami et all are cool with Jey…he fucked everyone over. It’s reasonable and logical which is the best heel foundation since it’s easily believable.
And then Drew told Seth exactly what was going to happen…you help Cody, imma pick up the pieces after you kill yourself the night before. And what happened? He did exactly that and they wrestled like 10 minutes because Seth logically was worn down and hurting…Drew wanted to sniff him out… it made logical sense.
Drew ran with it because he’s great but they didn’t need to adjust much at all character-wise.
That’s how we know Vince wasn’t around. He didn’t give a shit about continuity at a time people love continuity tv. Like the last 20 years have been audiences clamoring for logical worlds to get immersed in. He didn’t get it.
