it wasn't just that he paid off a paramour in an abundance of caution. he could have done that anytime in the previous 10 years. this was an entire scheme on the eve of the presidential election to enlist witting attorneys/publishers to trick Stormy into shutting up (for cash) so that voters would never know about it before going to the polls
