Less than 10% of the Met's revenues are from government - it's overwhelmingly from private gifts, admission, endowment etc

Per capita, NY taxpayers pay about $2 per year for the Met.
To me this suggests that low income NYers shouldn't pay, but ones who are comfortable should chip in something extra when they visit.
